SEMINOLE INDIAN SCOUTS CEMETERY ASSOCIATION

Carver School
Brackettville, Texas

Clarence Ward, President

TO: All SISCA Members and Friends -- HAPPY NEW YEAR

FROM: Clarence Ward

Due to a very unfortunate accident (House fire) shortly after the Seminole Indian Scouts Cemetery Association celebration in September, I have been very busy and unable to perform my duties as president fully until now. There are a few projects that we will have to start completely again from scratch and there are some new items on the agenda. The first meeting of the millennium will be held on Carver School grounds at 1:00 p.m. on February 12, 2000. Every meeting thereafter will be held on the second Saturday of the month at the same time and same place.

SOME ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED:

  1. On April 10, 2000 some organization leaders and government officials will arrive in Brackettville. On April 11th they will meet with the Seminoles, tour the area and the cemetery, followed by a BBQ at Carver School grounds (This is a spin-off of the Underground Railroad meeting I attended in Ohio last year). The tour will continue on to Muzquiz and Nacimiento, Mexico where the meetings will continue (SISCA's President has been invited to travel with the group to Mexico).

  2. I have reordered tax exempt forms so that we may try to change our tax status from a 501-C13 to 501-C3 which will allow us to write grants to attempt to achieve our endeavors (I have already been approached by a grant writer locally).

  3. The SISCA flag has been under repair for a very long time now -- Let's get it repaired or purchase a new flag with all the necessary accessories (We often have members in parades on horses - They cannot display our flag and allow our colors (spirit) to show proud without a flag and accessories to do so) . . . We need to expose ourselves and let people know that we are still alive.

  4. I am tired of hearing that the cemetery is not clean, etc. About a year ago I presented you with a computerized contract for the cemetery caretaker to sign. Board members never took any review action on the contract.

  5. Need to set up a dedicated hard working committee to help to reroute the electrical wiring at the school grounds. It needs to go underground with new wire in pipe.

  6. Need to set up the building fund account -- which we already have donations for . . My name cannot go on the account -- You, the members need to decide the names in a meeting.

  7. I would like for SISCA to establish a long term agreement -- lease -- for the Lodge Hall -- then go in and fix it up and use it for meetings. This would be greatly helpful to SISCA and beneficial for the owners or caretakers because they would still own the building and it will be kept in good shape by SISCA expense.

  8. The new SISCA sign (metal) is still not yet painted so that it may be properly and proudly displayed . . The sign was donated during the September, 1999 celebration by Henry Lozano and family of Lozano's Welding here in Brackettville . . . . SISCA colors are blue and gold I believe, or maybe you want it black and white. You have to decide.

Thanks,

Clarence Ward, President
