"THE HISTORY OF NICODEMUS"
Available to Kansas Schools
Dressed in a beautiful Victorian dress, Angela will provide
you and your students with a dynamic presentation on the history
of Nicodemus, the only remaining all African American town left
west of the Mississippi. Designated a National Park (Site) on
October 3, 1996. The western migration of the African American
and their settlement in the West will be discussed. She will
autograph the most recent book on Nicodemus "Going Home to
Nicodemus" where she is featured along side her great great
grandfather Perry Bates, Civil War veteran and settler of
Nicodemus. She will share the story of book entitled "Wagon
Wheels" and other accounts settler stories. Slides and video
shown. She has spearheaded a project with Senator Dole,
Congressman Pat Roberts and the National Parks to obtain National
Park status for Nicodemus. Angela has been featured in and
consultant to many documentaries, books and films, is author of
many books, educational curriculum, and wrote the Kansas Tourism
guide "Kansas African American History Trail."
