WESTERN FRONTIER
| "This book will examine the contributions of African Americans who were scouts and soldiers on the United States western frontier during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. I believe this is the first book to take an in-depth look at African American scouts. There hasn't been much written on the topic in recent years, except a mention in a few books and articles. This book is not intended to be a totally comprehensive or all inclusive study. It explores individuals, incidents, and occurrences in which black men were involved during the westward movement as scouts and soldiers." From BLACK, BUCKSKIN AND BLUE, by Art T. Burton. |
