Denise White Fields, Curator

Denise White Fields, president of "FROM AFRICA TO ETERNITY, INC." is a native of Oberlin, Ohio, historically known as a stopping station for the Underground Railroad. Presently, Ms. Fields is a resident of Brunswick, Georgia.

Ms. Fields received her formal education at the following schools, Bluffton College, Bluffton, Ohio (BA Psychology/BA Social Work). East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, (BS Social Work/School Social Work Certification), Salem State College, Salem, Mass. (Master of Education). There have been many honors bestowed upon Ms. Fields and the collection. She received national acclaim as an "Outstanding Young Woman of America" in 1987, for contributions related to the collection. Also, in 1993, she was nominated for the national "Black Collectors Hall of Fame". During 1993, Ms. Fields was also elected as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Wayne County Museum of Goldsboro, N.C., as well as a member of the Museum's executive committee.

For over twenty years Ms. Fields has collected African and African-American artifacts. Currently, her collection contains over 3,000 pieces and continues to grow. She believes that the collection challenges the viewer. It can make positive changes in the way African-Americans are viewed worldwide. The collection chronicles the African American experience in overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges, from the 1700's through the 20th century, including the 1996 Olympic experience. It is her belief that the Lord has called her to this task.

From Africa To Eternity, a 501 (c) (3) corporation, houses authentic artifacts and documents related to the slave era, reconstruction, the military, civil rights, the Black Church, music/entertainment, sports, as well as figural images, pictorial images, literary collectibles, advertisements, money, stamps, banks, toys, dolls, folk art and various miscellaneous items. As the company's curator, Ms Fields displayed the "From Africa to Eternity" collection extensively throughout the United States with specific focus on the East Coast. Ms. Fields has presented major showings in Washington, D.C., Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio and Massachusetts. Specific sites include Ebenezer Baptist Church, (Atlanta), Morris Brown University and Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta), Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Emery University, Coastal Georgia Community College, Wilford Hall Medical Center and Lakeland Air Force Base (Texas), National Black Collector's Show (Washington, D.C.), Virginia State University (Petersburg, VA). North Carolina locations include Wayne County Museum, annual M.L.K. programs, Goldsboro Community Arts Council, Wayne County Library, Wayne County Public Schools, annual Kwanza programs Montessori Children's House, Wayne Community College, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Prison, Cherry Hospital, O'Berry Center, North Carolina Central University, Fayetteville State University, and Regional Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority events.

Recently the company's focus has been on coastal South Carolina and coastal Georgia. Some of these exhibits are as follows: Ritz Theater, Brunswick, GA., Beach Institute, Savannah, GA., Savannah Symphony in conjunction with a Ray Charles concert, Savannah Symphony's Black Heritage Concert, Glynn County Public Schools, and McIntosh County Public Schools. Participation in public events has been as follows: Sea Island Festival, St. Simon's GA., Culture Day, Sapelo Island, GA., Gullah-Geechee Festival Midway, GA., Trans-Atlantic Link Conference, Penn Center, St. Helena, S.C. and Friends of Sierra Leone Conference. The ultimate goal of the collection is multicultural inclusion and the promotion of racial harmony.
