Sabrina's Transformers Armada Reviews

Gigacon (Ultra) assortment, Wave 2: Jetfire with Comettor
Price: Approx $25-$27

Overall impressions: Has some flaws, but pulls off pretty much everything it's supposed to quite well.

Jetfire with Comettor:

Comettor (Minicon, blue and red moon buggy)

Features: Transforms from robot to buggy to a front landing gear to fit under Jetfire's nose in shuttle mode.

Pros: Transformation design is interesting, and has a Vehicon-like look, if you like that.

Cons: Difficult to move some parts where they need to go to transform. Has a solar panel for one arm, a gun for the other, and four wheels in place of feet.

Jetfire (Autobot, military-looking space shuttle)

Features: In shuttle mode, Comettor plugs under the nose to become landing gear. (the shield part becomes gear for the back end) The shuttle's cargo bay can open for possible minicon storage. 'Missiles' can plug underneath the wings, either in storage or in 'launchers'. When a minicon is plugged into the top of the wing, the missile is ejected like a bomb. Plugging a minicon in front of the tailfin causes two extra tailfins to pop out. The center rocket engine doubles as a gun. In either mode, pressing back on the tailfin activates a laser noise and lights, and forward causes a (sleepy or drunk sounding) voice to count down from five, followed by a rocket sound, and a series of 'pings' like a signal from a satellite. Doing so with a minicon attached makes the same laser noise at a lower pitch. In addition to shuttle and robot modes, Jetfire also transforms into an alternate lower half for Optimus Prime's super robot mode, supposedly for flight attacks.

Pros: Quite impressive looking in all modes. Robot mode is tall, stocky, and very powerful looking, much like a cousin of G2 Dreadwing. Arms are well-articulated. 'Rocketpants' mode for Optimus Prime is taller and better proportioned than the legs formed from his trailer (but doesn't transform automatically), and results in a huge and extremely impressive robot. Possibly the best space shuttle transfomer ever.

Cons: gun noises are annoyingly easy to trigger. While most modes are pretty stable, the toy is often floppy and unwieldy when transforming between them. While he has good knee and ankle joints, the legs can only move out a bit to widen the stance (probably necessary to acommodate the Rocketpants mode, which isn't too posable either) His face looks a little silly, especially the eyes. Bomb drop action isn't impressive. To make the cargo bay roomy enough to hold any minicons with the doors closed, the arms must be connected under the shuttle body, showing off the hands. Chestplate shield isn't easy to attach underneath the shuttle mode, and risks breaking.

Score: (out of 10) Jetfire 8.5, Comettor 6.5, Jet 'Rocketpants' Convoy 8.5, Overall 7.8
